You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf!
Challenges and pain (physical or emotional) are a given in life. Suffering (as a result of them) is optional. Mindfulness teaches us how to surf the challenging waves of life without having to suffer through them.
Womanhood Studio seeks to support our clients to be healthy in body and mind. Mindfulness is the ultimate mental fitness. It’s not about getting rid of thoughts and emotions. It’s not a relaxation technique. It’s not some spiritual escape. Instead, mindfulness teaches us to train the mind to turn its attention to the present moment — whether we experience it as pleasant or unpleasant — with a non-judgmental and compassionate attitude. In this present and more open, spacious state of being, we are better able to let go of our unconscious, automatic impulses and act from a more resourceful place. Mindfulness helps us come into greater physical and emotional balance and helps be with the imperfections and messiness of life in a more positive way.
Is this training right for me?
You might be overly stressed if you notice an ongoing or unusual amount of worry, anxiety, irritability, mental rumination, fatigue and/or tension. You might also experience sleep disturbances and headaches. If you identify with some of the statements below, this training might be for you. However, mindfulness benefits everybody. This training is also for those who are simply curious about mindfulness.

- I want to deepen my current meditation practice.
What can I expect?
This mindfulness –based stress reduction level 1 intensive provides you with the fundamentals of mindfulness and stress reduction. It is an adaptation of the widely researched and successful 8 week mindfulness-base stress reduction program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in order to make it more accessible to individuals with busy lives. To get the full benefits of mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques, it is highly recommended that you participate in the silent retreat that will be offered at Womanhood Studio on Sunday November 24th and the Level 2 training that will be offered in 2020.
The training is made up of three training blocks. The first two take place on two consecutive weekends: on a Friday evening and the following Saturday afternoon. The third block is two weeks later, on a Saturday afternoon. Each session lasts two and a half hours. The training will be in English. If all participants understand and speak Dutch, group discussion will be adapted to language preferences.
BLOCK 1 – Friday October 4 (19:30-21:30) and Saturday October 5 (10:45-13:30)
Theme: Shifting from living in automatic pilot (doing mode) to living with awareness (being mode)
Learn how to expand your span of awareness (physical, mental and emotional) and learn how to stay more present and grounded with discomfort tat comes up with challenging situations. Practice lying and sitting meditations.
BLOCK 2 – Friday October 11 (19:30-21:30) and Saturday October 12 (10:45-13:30)
Theme: How to respond versus react to stress
Learn about the physiology of stress and enhance your awareness about how your body mind reacts to stress. You will learn practices that enable you to consciously relate to physical, mental or emotional stress in a more supportive way. Develop a self-care plan to practice at home during the next two weeks. Practice sitting and moving meditations.
BLOCK 3 – Saturday November 2 (10:45-13:30)
Theme: Taking care of myself
Review sitting meditations, harvest your insights from the course, and revise your “self-care” plan. During the break between Block 2 and the last session, participants will have an opportunity to experiment with integrating the practices they learn into their daily lives.
Investment and return
If you sign up on or before September 27, pay the early bird price of €250 for the course. The standard fee is €295 which is to be paid by anyone who registers after September 27.
Womanhood Studio Unlimited Card Holders receive a free one hour online coaching session with the trainer during or following the course.
The recommended time investment in between training days is at least 30 minutes per day in order to get the most results. All participants must sign-up on or before September 30th. The course will go forward with at least 5 participants. The training can accommodate a maximum of 12 participants.
In return for your money and time, you will receive:
- 13 hours of instruction
- A workbook with detailed information about each theme
- Detailed instruction for home practice
- Recorded meditations in Dutch or English
- Additional resources: recommended articles, meditation apps, and books.
Who is the trainer?
Kim Brice is your trainer. She integrates mindfulness in all aspects of her personal and professional life which include organizational consulting work with social justice groups, personal coaching for women, and dance classes. She guarantees down to earthiness, warmth and humor and lots of passion. She is made up of an eclectic mix of qualities having been raised by a French father and a Danish mother in New York City and having lived and worked in many different cultural and political contexts around the world. She speaks and works in English, French and Dutch. She received certification at the Amsterdam-based Centrum voor Mindfulness and is a certified member of the Association of Mindfulness Trainers in The Netherlands.

Terms and Conditions
In order to confirm your enrollment in a training course, payment be received in full prior to the start of the course start date. If payment is not received prior to the start date, a space cannot be guaranteed. If you are not able to honor this condition, please be in touch with the trainer.
Practical information will be sent no later than one week prior to the start of the course or immediately for those booking within one week of the course date.
The right is reserved to cancel or re-schedule a course if necessary. In such circumstances, alternative dates, a full refund, or a credit note will be offered.
Cancellations and refunds
All cancellations must be made in writing before the start of the training course. Cancellations are only accepted when made in writing.
Refunds are available under the following circumstances:
100% refund when cancellation is sent in writing up to 7 days prior to the start of the course
50% refund when cancellation is sent less than 7 days prior to the start of the course
Course fee is non-refundable when a participant fails to attend the course on the first day or a participant cancels his/her participation on the day of the course.
In principle, if you miss one session, you will not be able to finalize the course.
